GridSim v1.2 Update
GridSim » Devlog
This v1.2 release of GridSim has a few changes:
- The gameplay dynamic has been changed, so that instead of having a certain amount of money to spend on keeping up with electricity consumption, the player instead has to keep the cost of electricity as low as possible while maintaining reliability. The new metrics are:
- Current Power Price per MWh: Shows how much money each MWh of power costs to produce currently. Takes into account maintenance and fuel costs.
- Total Lifetime Cost per MWh: Shows how much money each MWh of power costs to produce on average over the entire game session. Takes into account maintenance, fuel as well as upfront building costs.
- Hydro, Wind & Solar power output now varies intraday, rather than following the same pattern every day.
- The game buttons now float over the other elements rather than being fixed, which is more convenient for smaller screens where the player has to scroll around.

Feels like it broke the game. Money doesn't matter, so there's no feedback or need to balance now - just buy all the grid and production you want. It doesn't make a lot of sense as a sim.
Hmm, I might bring back the money balance but also let the player choose how much they charge per MW. Charging too much would lower your reputation and if it falls too low you lose the game, while charging a lower amount improves reputation. Because my issue before was that the amount earned per MW is arbitrarily set by the game, which isn't really realistic.
I'll keep the new meters I created in addition to the above, so the player can see how much it costs them to produce each MW vs how much they are selling each MW for - the difference being the profit which can be used to upgrade the grid etc.
Thanks for the feedback.
